Inspired by the iconic “Big Five” safari challenge in Africa, this innovative initiative was conceived by Adams Toussaint, Saint Lucia’s esteemed birding expert and conservationist, and his team. The St. Lucia Small Six Safari is a groundbreaking wildlife tour that invites visitors to discover and celebrate six rare and endangered species that can only be found on this breathtaking island.
Expert Guides with Decades of Experience
The tour is led by Saint Lucian birding expert and conservationist Adams Toussaint and his team. It features guided hikes in the rainforest at the Des Cartier Trail in the heart of the Quilesse Forest Reserve and on Praslin Island. The experience is a two-day nature adventure, offered year-round for travelers and locals alike.
Meet the Small Six of St. Lucia
Saint Lucia Parrot (Amazona versicolor) – The island’s vibrant, vocal national bird, once nearly extinct, now a symbol of conservation success.
Saint Lucia Black Finch (Melanospiza richardsoni) – Found in dry forest habitats, this elusive little bird is endangered and highly sensitive to habitat loss.
Saint Lucia Oriole (Icterus laudabilis) – A hidden gem of the rainforest with vivid yellow and black plumage, known more for its melodic call than visibility.
Saint Lucia Worm Snake (Tetracheilostoma carlae) – The smallest known snake in the world, this underground dweller is incredibly difficult to find.
Saint Lucia Whiptail (Cnemidophorus vanzoi) – A beautifully patterned lizard found only on two small islets off the coast.
Saint Lucia Pygmy Gecko (Sphaerodactylus microlepis) – Tiny, secretive, and perfectly camouflaged, this gecko hides under leaves and bark.
